What is one thing you want your patients to know about you?

One of the most important things that I rarely get to discuss with patients is that I’m just like them. I love music, practicing my favorite hobbies and spending quality time with my family. I’ve been happily married for over 42 years, raised four exceptional children and even have three grandchildren!

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

I’m a student of piano and have been taking lessons for years. I’ve actually composed my own music. This is one of my personal passions that I can’t imagine life without. It’s one of those things you never truly master and requires constant learning and diligent practice.

What is your favorite kind of music?

Blues and blues derived music; spirituals, honky-tonk and boogie-woogie, mostly.

What specialties or treatments interest you most?

Educating patients on the benefits of osteopathic manipulations has to be one of the most rewarding components of my day. During an Osteopathic manipulative treatment, which we offer free to patients during their appointment, I am able to get hands-on and move the patient’s muscles and joints using techniques that include stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. This non-invasive method of addressing musculoskeletal disorders and alignments can help correct structural imbalances of a patient’s body, improve circulation and relieve pain.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Interacting with patients is always the highlight of my day. You never really know where the conversation can go; one second we’re talking about nutrition, the next sharing our favorite jokes or quoting classic poetry. This is the basis for me to form meaningful, lasting relationships with my patients and break down the barriers that prevent most patients from opening up to their physician.

Where did you go to school?

For pre-med, I attended New York University. I later earned my doctorate from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1971.

If you were not a doctor, what would your career choice be?

A career as an entertainer or actor would be my second choice, behind the medical field.

What is one daily habit you would encourage patients to start doing?

Daily exercise! It’s no secret, bodies in motion tend to stay in motion, and performing various physical activities each day can have a considerable positive impact on your health. There’s no prescription, supplement or shortcut that can replace or match the benefits of exercise. It can be challenging to get started; however, I strongly encourage patients to start the dialog on their next visit. We can guide you towards exercises that are easy on joints, those best for building flexibility and what will work best for you.

What’s your exercise of choice?

I start almost every day swimming laps. About 1000 yards per day. It’s an incredible workout and deeply therapeutic for me.
